Medical Gas Administration (4-Hour Course)
This course develops the practical skills required for the safe administration of medical oxygen in emergency care situations. Training is delivered in line with current British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidance. Optional analgesic gas training is also available as a bolt-on where required.
Course Description
Practical training in the safe administration of medical gases
This practical course provides the knowledge and skills needed to safely administer oxygen in emergency care situations.
Designed for first aiders, emergency responders, healthcare personnel, and those working in high-risk environments, the course develops confidence in the safe preparation, handling, and use of medical gas equipment in line with current British Thoracic Society (BTS) guidance.

Participants must hold a valid first aid qualification that includes CPR. Participants must be 18 years or older.

- Roles and responsibilities when administering medical gases
- Safe handling and storage of gas cylinders
- Preparation and checking of equipment
- Administration of oxygen therapy
- Airway management equipment
- Resuscitation equipment
- Pulse oximetry and monitoring oxygen saturation
- Safety procedures and infection control
- Recognition of respiratory distress and breathing difficulties
Training includes practical, scenario-based learning designed to prepare learners for real-world emergency situations.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:
- Safely prepare and administer medical gases

- Apply current safety procedures and BTS guidance

Certification
Participants are continuously assessed throughout the course through practical observation.
On successful completion, learners receive a Medical Gas Administration certificate of competence valid for 3 years.
