Cadet Sergeant Matthew Higgins Chosen as Lieutenant Governor’s Official Cadet

We are exceptionally proud and delighted to announce that Cadet Sergeant Matthew Higgins has been selected to serve as His Excellency’s Cadet for the coming year!

Matthew has been an active member of St John Ambulance for an incredible 12 years, starting out as a Badger when he was around 5 years old. Through sheer determination and a strong sense of duty, he has achieved exceptional results, consistently ranking as one of our most experienced and senior Cadets. His impressive record of achievement includes the coveted Grand Prior Award—an award only acquired by the most advanced and diligent youth members—as well as being named the Commandery Cadet of the Year in 2023.

Matthew’s commitment is also reflected in his training and service. He is qualified as a Demonstrator and is one of the few Cadets to complete the challenging, professional First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3) course. Most remarkably, Matthew has given over 2,000 hours of public duty in the community to date, playing a vital role in keeping island events and residents safe.

This prestigious appointment is one of the highest honours available to a youth member and acknowledges Matthew’s outstanding dedication to service on the Isle of Man.

We could not be more proud of his dedication and achievements – congratulations, Cadet Sergeant Matthew Higgins!
